Nichelle Nichols, Uhura on original Star Trek TV series, has died at 89

Nichols’ role in the 1966-69 series as Lieutenant Uhura earned the actor a lifelong position of honour with the series’ fans. She died in New Mexico on Saturday of natural causes.
